Crime Stoppers

March 8, 2009

This right from www.insidelakelandpd.org...

good info!

Heartland Crime Stoppers

At yesterday's monthly meeting of the Polk County Police Chief's Association, Mr. Wayne Cross from Heartland Crime Stoppers paid us a visit and reminded the Chiefs in attendance how Crime Stoppers can be a useful tool in fighting crime. This tool is sometimes overlooked as a way to gather anonymous tips that can be passed along to law enforcement. Here is how the system works:

HCS logo Callers can use the telephone, cell phone texting, or the web to submit anonymous tips. If your tip leads to an arrest, you can be eligible for cash rewards that are funded through grants, donations, and fines levied against convicted defendants. General Fund tax dollars are not used to pay these rewards.

It was interesting to learn that Heartland Crime Stoppers, serving Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties, consistently has the highest percentage of arrests based on tips for any other jurisdiction our size - a whopping 21%! That figure is based on 544 arrests made during the last fiscal year, or 1.5 arrests per day from Crime Stopper tips. Rewards during that same period totaled $104,500.

The key to this success is you - the...

Update...2.24.09

February 24, 2009

I received an email from Ofc Ricks... Terra Largo is organizing a Neighborhood Crime Watch. I have heard for a small community they had a few incidents. Sadly like most communities... and like ours too.. it takes a problem for people to react.

And Hampton Hills has been doing pretty good as of late in regards to break ins. But if you check the spot crime maps it is still happening all around us... spring break is on the way and summer will soon follow.

My point is simple... we should not be lulled into a false security... we should be organized and start being pro-active rather than assuming all is well and the reacting once something happens again.

We are off to a great start... Our coordinators have been amazing in getting the ball rolling and staying on top of the city and lennar... The signs are up and look great.

LPD has shown us more presence and I personally think it is partly to do with them knowing that we have so many residents that really care about the future of Hampton Hills... We all have an investment here... lets take this to the next level together. We need...

SPCA FOLLOW UP... only 46 days left to help!!

January 26, 2009

The SPCA located in Lakeland needs your help. Your support. Your time. Your talents. Can’t you tell that, simply by looking at the sweet little puppy pictured in this post? Why would you deny this sweet little puppy the absolute best shelter facility and the best opportunity at finding a forever home?

PICT2759
Once again, here’s how you can help: go to www.zootoo.com/makeover and register as a user on this awesomely informative Web site. Then, select the “SPCA of Polk County” in zip code 33813. By doing this, you can help our Polk County facility win a $1 million makeover.
Why should you care? Read on.

Our local SPCA takes in more than 10,000 pets each year from Polk County residents. Can you imagine the cost involved in caring for that many animals every year, even if they are there for only a day? If not, let me spell it out: it’s about $35 per animal, per day, according to Rachel Bulman, public relations director for the SPCA

When you adopt an animal from the SPCA, you take home an animal that is up-to-date on all of its shots; it has had its first month of heartworm and flea treatment; it is spayed/neutered; and it is...

Fining Committee thoughts from a resident

January 10, 2009

I got the following email through the website. It comes from a concerned resident. I think she makes many very valid points... I would like to hear your comments on this subject... please leave your comments on the blog!!

------------------
The topic of our community's Covenant Fining Committee was briefly addressed at our most recent crime watch meeting and I just wanted to offer a few thoughts regarding this issue.  I am not on the committee but know that those who serve on it volunteer their time and effort for the benefit of our community.  To my understanding, it was the developer of the community (Metro West) who thought that a fining committee would be useful for our neighborhood.  Apparently, many residents where violating the covenants and, even though Rampart was sending letters to people asking them to comply with the covenants, behaviors weren't changing because there weren't any consequences for breaking the rules-thus, the fining committee began.

In order to even be fined, a resident has to violate the same covenant restriction three times.  Thus, a one time violation is not going to result in a financial penalty.  But those who refuse to abide by the regulations of the...

Preventing Home Break-Ins

January 5, 2009

Preventing Break-Ins

Don't have the "It won't happen to me attitude"...  For a small amount of time and money, you can make your home more secure and reduce your chances of being a victim.

Most burglars will spend no longer than 60 seconds to try to break into a home. Good locks and neighbors who look out for each other can be big deterrents to burglars.

How To Prevent Break-ins

  • Check the doors and locks
    • All outside doors should be constructed of solid wood or metal
    • The doors should fit tightly in their frames, and should be mounted with deadbolt locks with a minimum 1" throw.
    • For your home, install a peephole or wide angle viewer so you can see who is at the door before opening it.
    • Sliding glass doors should be installed with a "Charlie Bar" or a wooden rod or broom stick in the door track to prevent entry.
  • Check the windows
    • Double hung windows may be secured by drilling a downward angled (45 degree) hold through the top of the bottom sash and into, but not through, the bottom of the top sash. Insert a pin or nail into the hole.
    • Homes also can be the victims of...

BREAK IN

January 5, 2009

ATTN HAMPTON HILLS RESIDENTS:

This email from a resident on Rollingsford Circle:

Please make everyone aware that our home was just broken into today 1-5-2009.  Fortunately, no one was home but it happened between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m, they kicked down a portion of our fence then busted the whole 8 ft sliding glass door.  We also have a mid sized dog that they were able to detain.  They stole an enormous amount of stuff and in broad daylight too.  We live on the 3700 block of Rollingsford.  The cops told us that we should report this to Lennar, that it is the fourth break in since December.  The cop suggested that we encourage Lennar to hire a private security company.

-----end-----

If you have any info related to this crime please contact LPD:  Tips@lakelandgov.net

And as always if you see any suspicious activity with in Hampton Hills please do not hesitate and call LPD (911) immediately!!!

Keep your eyes open during the day... and your lights on at night!!

Your thoughts and comments are encouraged.

Help Lakeland SPCA Win Million Dollar Makeover

January 5, 2009

Saw this post over at the Lakeland Local Website by Lorri Delk Walker... I know many of us here in Hampton Hills are big pet lovers and our local SPCA does an amazing job... here is your chance to help them... this time without opening your wallet. Here ya go... and thanks from our furry friends in advance....

The Lakeland SPCA needs your help, and you can do it with very little effort on your part. Simply visit www.zootoo.com/makeover and create an account so you can vote for our local shelter to be the recipient of a $1 million makeover.

The last time I checked, the shelter was in 15th place. We can do better than that! The good news is that even if the Lakeland SPCA shelter doesn’t win but still places in the top few spots, there are valuable prizes that can be won.

So if you’ve been looking for a cause to get involved in but don’t have a lot of spare time or money to donate, here is your golden opportunity to get involved and help a worthy cause.

If you do have the extra time and money, the SPCA always is in need of donations...

Is this going on in your part of Hampton Hills????

December 15, 2008

Please take a look at this email we received through the website... I have forwarded this email to our Neighborhood Watch contact at LPD.  Please leave comments. Your thoughts and feelings are encouraged!!!

-----Original Message-----
I have been meaning to email you for a few days now but today after what happened decided I need to asap.  We live on Hampton Hills Drive and there are 2 busstops in front of our house, my husband parks outside and leaves at different hours because he is a restaurant manager...anyways, the other day my husband was leaving early around 6:30 am and 2 teenage boys waiting for the busstop walked to the front of the empty house (directly next to us, has been empty for 1 year at least now) and were smoking pot.  I have also seen kids hanging out in the yard there and drinking from the outside water spout where you'd hook a hose up.  It also has continued to bother me how the kids are constantly leaving trash in my yard and the empty house's yard.  A little respect for other people's property would be nice.
My main reason for emailing you this morning is, my husband's car was...

Please help Safe Kids earn free car seats from Graco!!!

December 15, 2008

All Children's Hospital recently partnered with Graco Children's Products for its Ready for the Road Ahead campaign.  This campaign was launched in order to ease some of the anxiety parents face when it comes to traveling with young children - including choosing which car seat is right for their child.
As part of the campaign Graco launched Ready for the Road Ahead, a site that focuses on helping parents getting ready for today, and also for what lies ahead, easing some of the worry so they can focus on the wonder of their journey.

On the site you will have a chance to sign up for the Ready.Safe.Go! Car Seat Club
Members will receive travel tips, advice and access to mobile technology that allows parents to update their child's growth record often and at any time. They will also gain access to special offers from participating partners such as Wondertime, Family Fun, Gerber Children's Wear, Gerber Products, JOHNSON'S®, and Baby.com.

While the club helps parents, it also offers a way to help the community - for every 10 people who join the
Ready.Safe.Go! Car Seat Club, by December 31, 2008, Graco will donate one car seat...
